The Fairy Dance Arc is the second arc of Sword Art Online Abridged.

Introduction

It has been a few months since the end of the SAO disaster. Although the majority of the 6,147 surviving players have been logged out successfully, 300 of them, including Asuna, have yet to awaken for unknown reasons.

Meanwhile, Kirito is trying to regain his life as Kazuto Kirigaya, which isn't easy since his sister has resumed her constant bullying of him. The only thing that keeps him going is his constant visits to Asuna in her hospital. But one day, Asuna's father announces that he is going to marry her to an employee of his simply to avoid paying her medical bills, much to Kazuto's shock.

However, things get interesting when Kazuto discovers that a figure that looks extremely like Asuna has been spotted in a new game called ALfheim Online.

Cast

Main Edit

The male protagonist of the series. As in the original series, he is an extremely skilled combatant and one of the best players in the game. Since beating SAO he has become mildly famous. However, he is struggling to reintegrate into the real world, mostly because his sister keeps bullying him.
The female protagonist of the series. On the surface she appears to be a nice caring person but beneath that she is a borderline psychotic person, also as a result of her upbringing. Despite this she pretends to be nice to people so people will like her for the person she wants people to see rather than the person she is. She is currently still held captive by her NerveGear and is trapped inside ALfheim Online.
Kazuto's sister. She is a very aggressively sporty and very sarcastic person, possible more than Kazuto. She constantly makes fun of Kazuto, particularly about him injuring his penis when he accidentally ripped out his catheter when he woke up, and especially about his "online wife" who she doesn't believes exists. Secretly though, she is Princess Leafa, heir to the throne of Sylvaine, in the game ALfheim Online.
As the therapist program of SAO, she was meant to manage and care for the players if and when they developed any psychological issues caused by the game. However, since day one, she has been unable to communicate with the players for reasons unknown even to her. As a result, she fell into despair as she watched countless players die and/or go insane, unable to help. She endedup being Kirito and Asuna's adopted daughter in an attempt to understand why they fell in love with each other rather than killing each other.
The man who was arranged to marry Asuna in order to stop her father paying her medical bills. He is a very perverted man who only hides his true nature from his boss, Shouzou Yuki. During the SAO incident he convinced Shouzou Yuuki to buy up the Aincrad servers in order to keep the players alive because it would look good on the company, as such he was the reason Kirito, Asuna and the other remaining players are still alive.

Supporting Characters

An African American living in Japan and a former player in Sword Art Online. Since logging out of SAO he has regained his life as a barman at the "Dicey Cafe". Tiffany still dislikes Asuna, but he gave Kazuto the info that she was trapped in ALfheim Online so Kazuto could rescue her and be happy.
A kind player of ALO, who is playing with a dodgy NerveGear, that he bought off the parents of an SAO victim, that randomly pulses the fear center of his brain and ambushes him with his deepest fears.
The Prince of the Sylphs, who is engaged to Leafa.

Side Characters

Asuna's father. A greedy man who was almost tempted to cut his daughter's life support in order to save money on medical bills but was only stopped when his lawyers pointed out that would "cause more problems that it would probably solve". So, he opted to "marry her off" to one of his employees instead, even though he didn't know his name or what he was like.
A player of ALO. He unwinds from his job at the soup kitchen by pretending to be a sexual predator.
A player of ALO who roleplays as a perverted Hillbilly.
A player of ALO who roleplays as a perverted southerner.
A creepy tree, designed to teach kids math.
A robotic Gandalf that teaches dodgy history facts.
The pet bat of the Salamanders.
The leader of the Cait Sith.
The Queen of the Sylphs, who stole his ex-girlfriend's account after a messy breakup.
The King of the Salamanders, who stole her ex-boyfriend's account after a messy breakup.

Suguha Kirigaya

Differences from the Original

  • The cheeriness of the opening scene has been exaggerated.
    • Kirito and Asuna don't talk during the opening scene, sugary sweetly or otherwise.
      • There's no tongue and cheek reference to Kirito's apparent love of fishing coming out of nowhere.
  • In the original, Suguha was a kind girl who felt emotionally distant from her brother, made worse by the fact that she had feelings for him. In the abridged version, she still feels emotionally distant from him, but she resents him for abandoning her and bullies him as a result.
    • In the original, Suguha was Kazuto's cousin/adoptive sister. In the abridged version, she's his biological sister.
  • Suguha's introduction, including the montage of how she dealt with Kazuto getting trapped in SAO and surviving it, is skipped.
  • Kazuto and Suguha's conversation on their porch is skipped.
  • In the original, Kazuto was the one who challenged Suguha to their duel. In the abridged version, it's heavily implied that Suguha challenged him.
    • In the original, Kazuto is the one who has the upper hand in the duel, as he's so fast that he keeps dodging Suguha's attacks. However, the match eventually comes to an end when Suguha manages to hit Kazuto on the head. In the abridged version, Suguha is the one who has the upper hand, due to Kazuto's weak body, and she doesn't let up her attacks despite his pleas for mercy.
    • Kazuto deciding to pick kendo back up and asking Suguha to be his teacher, in order to make up for lost time, is skipped.
  • Kazuto making breakfast for Suguha is skipped.
  • The details of how Kazuto found Asuna are skipped.
    • The fact that Asuna is one of 300 SAO players that haven't woken up yet is skipped.
  • Shouzou isn't presented as an idiotic asshole. He actually cares about his daughter, but he is the type of father who focuses more on his work than his family.
    • Shouzou was never tempted to pull Asuna's plug to avoid paying her medical bills.
  • Shouzou doesn't hate the fact that Kazuto keeps visiting Asuna, he's happy because he knows it'll make Asuna happy.
  • In the original, Sugou arrives at the same time as Shouzou, but only reveals himself once Shouzou is done talking to Kazuto. In the abridged version, he arrives by himself a few seconds after Shouzou.
  • Sugou isn't a random employee of RECT Progress, nor does Shouzou think his name is "Versace" due to it being written on his briefcase. Sugou is the son of Shouzou's business partner, and as such, Shouzou, and by extension Asuna, has known Sugou since he was a child.
  • The part where Sugou pretends to be a fan of Kirito while in front of Shouzou is skipped.
  • In the original, Sugou was the one who reveals he's marrying Asuna. In the abridged version, Shouzou is the one who announces the engagement.
  • Shouzou isn't in a rush to get Asuna married so he can stop paying her medical bills. If anything, he tries to talk Sugou out of it.
  • It is never stated that Shouzou has a habit of buying Ferraris, nor does he have an Italian Ferrari dealer, or at least one that he thinks is Italian.
    • The reason why Shouzou leaves is because he has a meeting to get to.
  • In the original, Sugou agrees he can't legally marry Asuna, but the Yuuki family is planning to adopt him, which is practically the same as them being married. In the abridged version, Sugou is getting married to Asuna in the more conventional sense.
  • Sugou doesn't make Asuna "talk" by opening and closing her mouth with his finger.
  • In the original, Sugou invites Kazuto to the wedding. In the abridged version, he tells him to stay away.
    • Sugou stating that they're having the wedding at the hospital is skipped.
  • The scene where Kazuto cries and Suguha comforts him, tucks him into bed, and sleeps next to him, only to wake up embarrassed after realizing what she's done, is skipped.
    • A flashback of Suguha and her mother in Kazuto's hospital room is skipped.

    • Kazuto receives the email from Andrew a day earlier than his original counterpart.

  • Kazuto doesn't have any trouble finding the Dicey Cafe. He therefore doesn't use that as an excuse to vent about how his life is going.
  • The drink Andrew offers isn't a "9-Up", it's a cup of coffee.
    • It's never stated that 9-Up needs to be boiled until it's brown unless it would be "hella toxic".
  • ALfheim Online isn't a children's edutainment game.
    • The educational challenges we see are an abridged series original.
    • ALO's magic system isn't an elaborate way to teach children how to read, it's based on old Nordic phrases.
    • Lots of locations have been given different names to add to the kid friendly astatic.
  • ALO's description isn't a jumbled mess that barely describes what it's like, nor does it have a message from the guy who wrote it talking about how his wife left him that wasn't edited out.
  • ALO's popularity isn't a relatively recent thing. By the time Kazuto found out about it in the original, people had been playing it for about a year, whereas here it has only been popular for about six months due to the SAO disaster being fresh in people's minds.
    • It's never stated that ALO became popular because it was discovered by roleplayers.
  • Due to the fact Andrew doesn't hate Asuna, he isn't reluctant to tell Kazuto about her. In fact, he encourages him to rescue her.
  • Kazuto and Andrew's fist bump is skipped.
  • Kazuto doesn't vomit on Andrew's jukebox.

  • Kazuto isn't excited to be a video game badass again, he's too worried about Asuna.

    • Kazuto doesn't pick being a Spriggan to make the whole ordeal end faster out of annoyance. He picked it because he thought it looked cool.

    • The part where Kirito checks to see if the log out button is missing is skipped.

  • Kirito isn't so overjoyed to see Yui again that he can barely form a sentence.
  • Yui didn't fake her death to "lighten to mood", nor did she beg for help while in the jewel Kirito made.

  • ALO doesn't have a profanity filter that replaces swear words/non-child friendly words with child friendly alternatives.
  • Yui doesn't summon Kirito's wings and send him flying. He summons them himself and tries to learn how to use them with Yui's help.

  • ALO now appears to be an international server, this is not confirmed in the original.
    • We never find out what certain characters' real names are.
  • A fight between Leafa and the Salamanders is skipped.

  • A conversation between the two Salamander soldiers Kirito killed is added in.
  • In the original, the reason Yui pops out of Kirito's pocket is because he jokingly asks Leafa to show her gratitude by giving him a hug. In the abridged version, she pops out to remind Kirito they're on a time limit and to threaten Leafa to not get in their way.
  • In the original, Leafa was the one who presents the idea of Yui being a normal Pixie, and Kirito just agrees with her. In the abridged version, Kirito claims that Yui is his pet.
