The Math Tree (数学の木, Sūgaku no Ki) was one the educational NPCS of ALfheim Online.

Appearance

The Math Tree is a large tree with deranged eyes, rotten teeth and what seems to be a swarming cloud of gas in its mouth.

Personality

For some reason, instead of being programmed with the personality of a normal educational NPC, the Math Tree was programmed with personality of a crazed wizard like figure, which scared players away.

Pre-Episode 14

The Math Tree was designed to teach the players of ALO who about math. However, for some reason, it was designed to look creepy and demented, which most likely scared players off. Not only that, but the punishment for not answering his questions was to wander the forest naked for an unknown amount of time.

Episode 14

When Kirito asked Leafa about the World Tree, while in the Ancient Forest, she thought he was talking about the Math Tree, as it naturally attracted questions. This prompted it to try and get the players to answer his "perplexing" math questions. When Kirito was able to answer said question, the Math Tree exclaimed that it was impossible and promptly exploded.

Differences from the Original

Surprisingly, the Math Tree didn't exist in the original, Leafa knew which tree Kirito was talking about.

Trivia

• When they wrote the script, Hayabusa449 imagined the Math Tree looking like the Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas, but when YamatoSFX was editing the episode, he ended up going down an art style similar to the show Angela Anaconda.
